As I wrote this post, I had just upgraded this blog to the newest WordPress version – 2.8.5 and the process was quite smooth without any hassle. Before I continue to guide you how to easily upgrade WordPress in 3 simple steps, I would like to highlight about some new features of WordPress version 2.8.5.


New fix/Changes in WordPress Version 2.8.5

  • A fix for the Trackback Denial-of-Service attack that is currently being seen.
  • Removal of areas within the code where php code in variables was evaluated.
  • Switched the file upload functionality to be whitelisted for all users including Admins.
  • Retiring of the two importers of Tag data from old plugins.

WordPress developers team encourage every wordpress user to upgrade to this newest version to have best protection on your wordpress sites.

How To Upgrade WordPress In 3 Steps


Step 1: There’s a small notification in WordPress Dashboard that mentioning that the newest version of WordPress 2.8.5 is available! Please update now. Click the Please Update Now link to proceed to step 2.

Step 2: Before upgrading, make sure you backup your database and files first. You may choose to upgrade automatically or download the package and install it manually. In this case, I choose to upgrade automatically.

Step 3: Upgrade WordPress is in progress and you will notify by the message “WordPress Upgrade Successfully”. Then, the whole WordPress upgrading mission is completed.


The WordPress upgrading procedure is not so complicated if we follow the steps. Therefore, let’s upgrade to newest WordPress version 2.8.5 to have better security protection on our blog.
