Do you host your websites on Host Monster or Blue Host? I could not browse to Money4Invest.com which hosted at HostMonster since 11am this morning. It only resumes at 3pm just now. Unfortunately, there were a lot of websites hosted at HostMonster & Blue Host and reported down as well. That means there were around 4 hours down time recorded and I believe it’s also quite a long server down time for such popular hosting companies. For your info, HostMonster and BlueHost are owned by same owner.

Root Cause of Servers Down Time

According to HostMonster and BlueHost websites:

There is a complete power outage effecting one of the HostMonster/BlueHost data centers, expected ETA is roughly 1:00 AM Mountain Standard Time.
Provo Power has requested that we shut down power while the transformer is being replaced. They are allowing us to use UPS power for the phone system. The other data center is unaffected by this outage. We apologize for any inconvenience.

How to Avoid Website Down Again?

I know sometimes it’s not the fault of Hosting company especially complete power outage as mentioned above. For webmasters who owned a few websites, my advice is not to host all your websites in one hosting company but host at different hosting company to avoid unforeseen circumstances or major disaster.

So, how can we guarantee that our websites will not down again?

  1. last week Hostagator was down for five hours. I am using them on all my sites.

  2. i changed webhost when my previous webhost was sucky.. downtime was more than 7 hours!

    • @Ken: Sorry to hear that, nowadays, I don’t know where we can find a reliable web hosting that has less than 1 hours down time in each server down time.

  3. Today 11/10/10 Bluehost was down for most of the day. I already moved one blog to InMotion and no problems and the upload time is very fast. Tech support is also better. I can’t emphasize enough Bluehost Problems seem to be here to stay. Bluehost is unreliable and Bluehost has servier downtime problems. And in case you picked this up I used bluehost so many times in hopes that google finds this and other people get the work. Thanks for letting me vent.

    • @Theo: That’s really bad service and they should give a better reason why there was a long downtime. It’s good to have other backup hosting if you have a few blogs/websites. Don’t put all the websites in one hosting only. Thanks for sharing with us.
